Benefit from the speed of speech wherever you are

Olympus Introduces New Groundbreaking Dictation Solutions — The Olympus Dictation Smartphone App and Olympus Dictation Delivery Service (ODDS).

Sydney, 15 October 2013 – Olympus, the world’s market leader for professional dictation devices is proud to announce the release of solutions designed to empower your voice, allowing your workday to be more streamlined, effective and productive. The newly released Olympus Professional Dictation Smartphone App in conjunction with the Olympus Dictation Delivery Service (ODDS) works in perfect harmony with the current DS-7000 and DS-3500 Professional Dictation devices to further increase the ability of busy professionals to record anytime, anywhere.

Available for download from the Apple App Store® or Google Play®, the Olympus Dictation App enables users the freedom
to dictate in the established Digital Speech Standard (DSS) format, even when their dictation device is not at hand, allowing subscription users to record, edit and send files from their iPhone® or Android® Smartphones. With this perfect accessory to Olympus Professional Dictation devices, users can now dictate whenever and wherever they are and still enjoy all the benefits of their Olympus Digital Dictation workflow solution.

For anyone who dictates extensively, there is no substitute for a dedicated dictation device. The incomparable performance of the microphone in a dedicated dictation device combined with the usability and ergonomics offered, for example, by slide- switch operation, means that a dictation device such as the class-leading Olympus DS-7000 voice recorder will always be the best tool for the job. However, for those scenarios where a dictation device is not accessible, Olympus has developed the Dictation Smartphone App for the convenience of its extensive user base. For an annual license fee, users are able to transmit files in either DSS or encrypted DSS Pro file format to the Olympus Dictation Management System (ODMS) transcription module, allowing for increased business efficiency and uninterrupted workflow without worrying about compromising security.

Files on the Dictation Smartphone App are recorded directly into DSS format on the device, rather than being converted into DSS from another format later. The DSS format is the established standard for dictation; designed especially for the recording of speech, allowing a high level of encryption guaranteeing security and producing very small files. Using the Olympus Dictation App, you can also ensure your Smartphone dictations include all the information available as you would with a dedicated device. For example, it is possible to define worktypes for your dictations and also set priorities for individual dictations. It’s also possible to edit recordings with the Smartphone which allows the insertion of sections into recordings, rather than just over- writing them.

The Olympus Dictation Delivery Service (ODDS) serves as a cloud-based platform for the central management of the Smartphone dictation users in your work environment. Its configurability ensures dictations are sent to the correct people within the organisation. Via the ODDS, administrators can pre-define settings for users of the App — e.g. security settings, recording format and available worktypes, whilst also defining the workflow for individual users. For example, an administrator can pre- define whether dictations should be sent via e-mail or FTP and also what dictations appear in the pre-defined workflow of customers who already use the Olympus Dictation Management System (ODMS) workflow software. All a user has to do is send finished dictations and ODDS ensures they are transferred to the correct transcriptionist. All communication is of course secure, via HTTPS and SFTP and no dictations are ever stored in the cloud.

In today’s business environment, mobility and around the clock availability is key. Whether travelling for business or pleasure, working on the road or from home, Olympus’ revolutionary voice systems provide a mobile solution for everyone. You can carry on business as usual, without interruption and benefit from the speed of speech wherever you are.

The new Olympus Professional Smartphone Application is currently available for download via the Apple App Store® or Google Play®. Annual licenses for the Olympus Dictation Delivery Service (ODDS) are available from Authorised Olympus Professional Dictation Dealers across Australia and New Zealand.
