The latest music digital recorder from Olympus is now available in Australia, the Olympus LS-3 comes hot on the heels of the demise of its predecessors the LS-10 and LS-11 and puts its hand up as the sole recorder in the current Olympus Australia range aimed at recording music.

So what makes the LS-3 different to any other recorder in the Olympus range? Well all the other Olympus recorders are designed to record spoken audio which generally has a constant and narrow range of audio volume. Large fluctuations in volume, very quiet to very loud are not coped with well with standard voice recorders, this is where the LS-3 steps in. Not only that but the new Tresmic 3 mic system nestled under the LS-3 mic grill is designed to pick up a more natural, closer to reality audio.

Audio levels on the LS-3 can be controlled automatically or if you prefer manually. When setting levels manually a built-in limiter will suppress any sound distortion.

The neatest feature of the LS-3 though has to be the pre-record function. Advertised to let you “Never Miss A Beat” this handy featured when turned on will hold a 2 second audio buffer, so as soon as you hit record the previous two seconds of audio has already been recorded and now included in the audio recording.

Key features of the LS-3 are:

Records in Linear PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) WAV, MP3 or WMA audio formats

3 Tresmic Mics, center mic can be turned on or off to give a frequency response of 20Hz-20kHz (Center mic ON) or 70Hz-20kHz (Center mic OFF)

4Gb of built-in flash memory with an additional microSD card slot for expansion upto 32Gb

Mac & Windows compatible

Released in Australia in August 2011 for RRP $299 incl. GST, the LS-3 sets a new standard in music and nature sound recording.

You may want to go make a cup of tea before you start reading, this is going to be a long post. Why so long? The DM-450 and DM-550 are just amazing digital recorders and are packed to the brim with features while at the same time being extremely easy to use out of the box. So, if you have your tea made then lets begin….

The new DM-450 and DM-550 digital note taker vooce recorders from Olympus have recently replaced the massively successful DS series note takers (DS-30/40/50 and more recently the DS-55/65). With each new evolution of this range of recorder they just get better and better in all areas; look, feel, audio quality and ease of use.

The DM-450 and DM-550 follow a similar pattern with Olympus recorders. Essentially they both the same internally with only slight differences between the DM-450 and DM-550, if you record a WMA in ST XQ on both recorders they would record exactly the same audio.

Let’s start with the huge list of what they both can do:

Fill in here …

The subtle differences between the two are listed below:

DM-450 has 2Gb of in built memory, expandable via the micro SD slot.

DM-550 has 4Gb of in built memory, expandable via the micro SD slot.

DM-450 is silver.

DM-550 is black.

Available only on the DM-550:

PCM audio recording. This creates a better than audio quality CD recording to an uncompressed .WAV file.

Recording level can be adjusted automatically or manually.

Files can be moved between folders in the memory.

Files can be split or divided on the recorder.

Intro play feature when searching through files.

Partial erase (PCM files only)

Ok now that you know all the features and functions let’s look now at the using the recorder itself. Both recorders are about the length of a snickers bar and about 3/4 the width. They fit nicely in your hand and when placed on a desk is held firmly in place by four tiny rubberized feet. The recorders are housed in an aluminum shell so they are tough and can take some abuse.

Talk about scenes when going through the various modes, scenes make it easy to choose the right setting and yu can create your own scene.

The new Olympus DM-450 and DM-550 digital note taker voice recorders from Olympus have recently replaced the massively successful DS series note takers (DS-30/DS-40/DS-50 and more recently the DS-55/DS-65). With each new evolution of this range of recorder they just get better and better in all areas; look, feel, software, audio quality and ease of use.

The DM-450 and DM-550 follow a similar pattern with previous Olympus recorders. Essentially they are both the same internally with only slight differences between the DM-450 and DM-550, if you record a WMA or MP3 in ST XQ on both recorders they would record pretty much record the same audio (DM-450 stereo mic records 100Hz to 15kH, DM-550 stereo mic records 70Hz to 20kHz). Let’s start with the huge list of what they both can do:

Features of both DM-450 and DM-550 are:

Mac (Intel) and Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 32-bit & 64-Bit) compatible.

Records in .WMA or .MP3

Expandable memory via the MicroSD/MicroSDHC slot using commercially available MicroSD/MicroSDHC cards.

Supports playback of audio in WAV, WMA and MP3 format, either recorded by the recorder or transferred from files on your computer.

Built in Variable Control Voice Actuator (VCVA) allows voice activated recording based on variable volume triggers.

Low Cut noise filter attempts to remove low level audio sounds like air conditioning units

Noise cancellation and voice filter functions to enhance audio on playback.

Built in and programmable recording and playback scenes (e.g. conference recording, interview recording, dictation etc).

Move or copy files between built-in memory and expanded memory.

Backlight display.

Index and temp marking.

Controllable playback speed.

Voice guidance feature, the recorder talks to you to advise of menu selections, perfect for vision impaired users.

Folders can be named.

Timer record, set the record to start recording at preset times and days.

Alarm feature, set the recorder to playback audio at preset times.

Directional mic, records wide all around audio (interviews, meetings, focus groups etc) down to single directional for direct dictation.

Comes with Olympus Sonority software for audio file editing, enhancement and email functions. Although software is not required to take audio from the recorders, they are plug and play on both Windows and Mac – no software required.

Batteries can be charged via USB.

Recorders can be used to store and playback podcasts, configured via the Olympus Sonority software.

Recorders can be used as an Audible device, store and listen to your audio books on the recorders.

The subtle differences between the DM-450 and DM-550 are :

DM-450 has 2Gb of in built memory, expandable via the micro SD/SDHC slot (512mb – 16Gb).

DM-550 has 4Gb of in built memory, expandable via the micro SD/SDHC slot (512mb – 16Gb).

DM-450 is silver, DM-550 is black.

Features available only on the DM-550 are:

PCM audio recording. This creates a better than audio quality CD recording to an uncompressed .WAV file. Typically used to record music and nature sounds like birds or frogs.

Both recorders are super fast at start-up, this will appeal to journalists in particular who need to quickly whip out their recorder to grab sound bites. The record, stop and play buttons are located on the right side of the unit if you look at it face on, this is perfect positioning and takes no thought as to which button to press, this is similar to the tried and trusted design of the Pro range of digital dictaphone, all of which have the record/play/stop controller on the side. By placing the button here makes the device universally acceptable to both right and left handed people, with the mics at the top of the unit it can be flipped to suit either dexterous ethnicity.

Easy Access To Stop/Play/Record Buttons

As you can see from the image above showing the play/stop/record button location just above on the top of the unit is the grill protecting the phenomenal stereo mics, which are not only gorgeous (you have to be a digital recorder fan to think that a mic grill is that good) but super sensitive. A new feature introduced in this range of digital recorders is the zoom mic. This can vary the range of audio pickup from narrow to wide. For the vast majority of your recordings you would choose a wide setting. Zoom would be rarely used except for when in an audience and you are struggling to hear a speaker, flick to zoom and point at the presenter to get the best chance of audio pickup. As always, my general rule of thumb, if you can hear what is being said, so will the record. If you are struggling to hear, zoom will be your best chance of audio pickup.

The DM-450/DM-550 are powered by 2x AAA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries (included) and can also be powered by standard alkaline AAA’s. They can also be powered via USB, both PC/Mac connected or via mains power. Olympus claim that you will get 51 hours of recording off the batteries in LP mode. Nobody uses LP mode so expect less than that, personally I recommend USB powering the units if you are going to be recording long sessions.

Essentially the DM-450 and DM-550 are now the work horse Olympus units for recording interviews, sound bites, conferences, lectures, meetings and with the PCM capabilities of the DM-550 music and nature sounds. In our business we use the DM-450 for any onsite recording we do for clients.

The DM-450 retails for $349.00 incl. GST and the DM-550 is $449.00 incl. GST in Australia.

Dragon Dictate has been available in Australia and worldwide for a couple of weeks now and the flood of people upgrading from MacSpeech Dictate shows just how keen Mac users are for good voice recognition software like Dragon NaturallySpeaking for Windows. This short post is just a way for me to show you the very basics and the main reason why people buy this software. Simply, speech recognition lets you talk to your Mac and have it transcribe what you say. If you are a slow typist, your hands hurt when you type alot or you think faster than you type then this is the software for you. Take a look:

Nuance has quickly forged their authority on the Dictate brand of voice recognition software for Mac and with their first release Dragon Dictate 2.0 they have done an excellent job. But what now for the Legal and Medical edition still stuck at MacSpeech Dictate version 1.5 and the fairly new offshoot product MacSpeech Scribe currently at version 1.1, all of which are using the older Dragon speech recognition engine and not the new one included with Dragon Dictate.

I have some theories for these products which may or may not be correct so please don’t hold me to them. These are my best guesses and have not been confirmed or denied by Nuance, just my two cents worth.

MacSpeech Scribe in my view can go in ne of two directions. It can either be discontinued and the voice to text functionality built into a later Dragon Dictate update, much like Dragon NaturallySpeaking Premium or Professional for Windows. Or Nuance will embrace this as a separate product and continue to push it as a stand alone offering for transcribing only recorded audio. I have always been torn on MacSpeech Scribe, I have never understood why you would create a separate product for transcription of digitally recorded audio but that maybe because I have been so used to the functionality from the Windows side of the fence. As MacSpeech Scribe is still fairly new I have a feeling Nuance will continue with it and we will likely see a Dragon Scribe product appear in the very near future.

So what about the Medical and Legal version of MacSpeech Dictate, are we going to see an equivalent in Dragon Dictate? My personal view is that we are likely to see a Legal version for Dragon Dictate but maybe not the Medical version. From my understanding the Legal dictionary of terms is fairly standard and so can be quite easily built into a speech recognition dictionary. Wheres Medical with its large number of specialised area of understanding would be an unwieldily dictionary to maintain and build. For the Medical side of things I think we will see a third party put their hand up and claim an exclusive partnership with Nuance to provide and support that medical crowd.

So when can we see what I have theorised about above. Dragon Scribe I would think would be very close, if it is coming, and we would likely see this before the end of the year. Dragon Dictate Legal I would also see on the same time line, especially as we now have Dragon Dictate in the wild adding a more comprehensive legal dictionary can’t be that far behind.

Of course as soon as we get wind of any new voice recognition products from Nuance for the Mac or Windows we will post the info.

The cat is finally out of the bag as Nuance, owners of the MacSpeech brand of voice recognition for Intel Mac, announced the latest version of the Dictate family. Dragon Dictate, formerly known as MacSpeech Dictate, is the new name and with it comes more enhancements and features. In this blog post we will look at:

What’s New In Dragon Dictate 2.0 for Mac

What Are Your Upgrade Options From MacSpeech Dictate to Dragon Dictate

Where Can You Buy The Software In Australia

Dictate Australia has been with MacSpeech Dictate since day one, we are big fans and have loved to see this product grow from strength to strength. Now at version 2.0 the influence of Nuance is clear for all to see as the product lines of their famous NaturallySpeaking brand for Windows and Dictate for Mac merge closer and closer together. We have been beta testing the new Dragon Dictate for a few weeks and love the new look and feel, it feels polished.

I have always been honest and up-front with any customer I have spoken to over the years when asked “…just how good is MacSpeech Dictate?”. I have lauded the accuracy of the Dragon speech recognition engine on the Mac but you could always feel that there was alot of catching up to do with the feature packed and more mature Windows equivalent. Nuance, since their takeover of MacSpeech earlier this year, are acknowledging the importance of the Mac by showing their dedication and support to the Dictate product and with Dragon Dictate 2.0 we now have a world class speech recognition software for the Apple Mac.

So what’s new in 2.0 other than the new name;

Dragon 11 Engine – The very latest Dragon speech recognition engine used Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 for Windows – very fast and accurate voice recognition

Proof Reading Added – making full use of the Macs text-to-speech functionality Dragon Dictate will now read back to you your transcripts, helping speed up the proof reading process.

Mouse Grid – My favourite, makes browsing the web easy by zooming into a point on the screen quickly using a mouse grid.

Mouse Movement – Easily fly your mouse pointer around the screen using just your voice.

Mouse Click – Again, using your voice you can click, double click and triple click.

Multiple Audio Sources – Use more than one mic? No longer a problem you can have multiple audio source now for your trained profile.

Easier Editing – A range of new commands to help edit documents by voice much easier.

Dragon Dictate is available to buy now from the MacSpeech Australia website and available in four configurations:

AU$219.95 – Download only, BYO mic.

Adding to the mountain of new Olympus digital voice recorders about to launch in Australia this month (September 2010) is the stunning new DM-5. Joining the DM-450 and DM-550 in the DM series the Olympus DM-5 heralds a new look voice recorder for the Olympus brand.

As always with Olympus recorders, they are packed full of features, huge amounts of memory and probably the best audio recording quality you can get from a digital voice recorder. If you are recording an interview, meeting, focus group or the speaker at a conference or lecture you won’t go wrong with an Olympus digital note taker. Here are some of the features included with the new DM-5:

Massive 8Gb of in-built memory

Record in .mp3, .wma or PCM .wav

Mac & Windows compatible, plug-and-play no software required

3 Programmable buttons to easily access your favourite feature

Voice activated recording

Rechargeable batteries: charge from USB or mains power

29 Hours of battery life

Expandable memory via microSD slot

Mic record level controls

Huge 2.2 inch backlit colour display

So as you can see not just an awesome, high quality voice recorder but choc-a-block with features and memory. I have mentioned in previous blog posts how the trend for note takers is moving away from just being recorders. Again we see mountains of memory, more than you would ever need for voice recording alone (522 hours on the highest quality record mode) so the humble digital voice recorder now becomes your backup drive, your mass storage device for documents/photos/videos and your media player for music, podcasts or audio books (audible.com compatible).

Something new for Olympus recorders is the large, 2.2 inch, colour screen. At a glance the status of your recording can be viewed without the need to cycle around menus, its all there in full colour. Flicking through the menus is also easier and clearer thanks to the vast amounts, compared to other voice recorders, of screen real estate. We hope to get one of the first DM-5′s into our office in the next day or two, as soon as we do we will post a blog review with audio samples and some close up pics.

RRP for the DM-5 in Australia is $599 incl. GST and they are expected to be available in Australia from 8th September 2010 onwards.

USB chargeable battery

FM Radio Receiver

FM Radio Recording

Virtual Zoom Mic – Focus precisely on a single, distant audio source

Auto Recording – Essential for long recording sessions, save battery power and cuts down superfluous recording.

Mac & Windows compatible

As you can see a very slight design change from the last set of WS series recorders, the mics have been placed on the top of the unit now. One of the reasons for this is to allow the recorder to sit in a shirt or jacket top pocket and record. Also, there is a choice of colours for the units, well overseas anyway, we are yet to see if colour options come to Australia. What continues to amaze me is the amount and the cheapness of the storage, 8Gb is a huge amount of storage for a voice recorder which obviously now transforms it from just an excellent digital voice recorder into being also a music/podcast player and media mass storage device.

Details on the new Olympus DM-5 to follow …. the DM-5 will have an RRP in Australia of $599 incl. GST

Of course all these recorders will be available to buy from Dictate Australia – Olympus Gold Partner – with super fast delivery Australia wide.

Olympus Imaging who this year took over the distribution of Olympus voice products in Australia have recently allocated Gold and Platinum status to a select few Olympus resellers Australia wide. This restricts the number of resellers able to sell the Pro range of digital dictation and transcription products and software; the DS-5000, DS-3400 recorders and the AS-5000 transcription kit and AS-5002 transcription module software. We at Dictate Australia are proud to have become a Gold Olympus partner.

What does this mean this to the resellers. Well not much has changed for most of us, we are required to keep a healthy stock of all Pro line recorders and we are all required to be trained in the Pro recorders and software, all of which we already are. We also have more direct access to our own personal Olympus representative who can assist us and you in making sure you get the right solution for your business. Your business could be a one person shop with outsourced transcription or a large hospital or legal practice with offices around the country, both Dictate Australia and Olympus will be there to help you plan for your needs.

As we are based on the NSW Central Coast, our office is in Erina, we are able to offer demo’s of the Olympus products in our office, just call to arrange a time. If you are in Sydney we can arrange to come to you for a demo and a chat, of course this is all obligation free and there is no hard sell (I am personally not a fan of hard sell as I will buy anything if subjected to it – I currently own several time shares in Spain and frequently change my phone/internet/gas/electric provider when they come knocking at my door ), this is just an opportunity for you to have a hands on look and feel and a chat about how the recorders and transcription kits work.

As we are a national reseller for Olympus those of you outside Sydney don’t lose out either. We are available as always by phone for advice and information at any time, if you have a question about any aspect of dictation or transcription just give us a call. We can also support you remotely using our direct connect support software can connect to your PC or Mac and help you with any issues. We run both Windows (XP, Vista, 7) and Mac in the office.

Olympus Voice Australia have just issued another new wholesale price list to its Australian resellers confirming three more discontinued voice recorders, a huge price cut for one popular recorder and the official launch of the new WS series recorders earlier than expected.

Discontinued: In the digital note taker range the very pricey but sheek WS-331M finally gets the chop along with the very popular WS-210S, which of course had to happen just as I wrote a huge review on the recorder! Also removed from the product range is the J300 analogue micro cassette dictaphone.

Price Cuts: The J500 analogue micro cassette dictaphone has been dropped to the same price as the axed J300 and is RRP $149.00 incl. GST now. But of note is a huge price cut for the WS-110 digital note taker dropping from RRP $355.00 incl. GST to only RRP $195.00 incl. GST

Launched: As reported in my last blog post “Olympus Australia Revamp Entire WS Series Range Of Digital Voice Recorders” the new replacement WS series digital note takers are now officially launched in Australia and their pricing has been confirmed.

WS-450S (replaces the WS-210S) – RRP $295.00 incl. GST

WS-550M (replaces the WS-311M) – RRP $395.00 incl. GST

WS-560M (replaces the WS-321M & WS-331M) – RRP $495.00 incl. GST

The release of these new recorders came a week earlier than expected.

We review the new Philips DVT 880 [LFH0880] digital voice tracer. Philips first PCM recorder which is also now Mac & Linux compatible.

This week we took delivery of the new Philips 880 Digital Voice Tracer. Philips have really made an effort with this new range of digital voice tracers which also include the 860 and 880 models, we finally see Mac compatibility which is a smart move by Philips. Gone is the need to install software in order to retrieve audio from the recorder as was the case in the old voice tracer range, these new models are all simple plug and play. Olympus have for sometime been the only descent Mac compatible digital voice recorders around and with the boom in Mac sales it makes good business sense at Philips to recognise this fast growing, tech savvy user base.

Philips DVT Digital Voice Tracers are Windows, Mac & Linux Compatible

In the box I am impressed by the number of goodies. Along with the recorder and the mandatory instruction manual in 752 languages comes a neck strap (handy), batteries so you are ready to go (essential), USB connecting cable (long so no messing around the back of your PC or notebook), stereo headset (nice touch) and a very nice stereo lapel mic, usually an optional extra for most voice recorder manufacturers.

Philips Digital Voice Tracer - DVT - 880 - LFH0880

The recorder itself is lightweight with the batteries in and about the size of a Nokia chocolate bar mobile phone. There is a sticker right over the built in speaker on the front of the unit which is stuck with that special glue, you know the kind that leaves half the sticker attached as you peel it off. Tad annoying.

Powering up the recorder the display is backlight blue so looks good but the display is big and clear. Flicking through the menus isn’t as intuitive as it could be and some initial manual referencing is required to work out things like changing the recording mode and mic sensitivity.

USB plug and play is a breeze on Winows, Mac and also Linux, the device is simply a USB drive so audio is easily accessed via the voice folders where they are stored.

This is recorder has a PCM mode for better than CD quality recording. In our office testing we did find the audio pickup at close range to be excellent like all recorders however it did seem to struggle a little with voices at the end of a large boardroom table. We did the same distance test with an Olympus WS-210S and the picked up clearer audio from a distance that the 880.

Some will like the ability to play music (mp3 and wma) on the recorder and to listen to the radio. I still find this a bit of a gimic in a voice recorder so we didn’t test these functions although I am sure it playes back music as well as any other USB music player. The ability to record FM radio will also appeal to some.

Summing up, the 880 is a good, cheap voice recorder for close range meetings (max 4 or 5 people) and for single speakers. It is very easy to get the audio off of the recorder no matter what platform you use.

Pros:

Well priced entry level PCM recorder.

Easy to use.

Fast easy transfer of files on all platforms – Windows, Mac and Linux.

Can be USB powered conserving battery life.

Firmware is user upgradeable giving the end user access to bug fixes and improvements as they are released from Philips.

Cons:

Poor audio pickup around larger number of speakers, i.e. large boardroom table.

Navigating the menus could be simpler.

Olympus Australia discontinues the DS-3300 digital dictaphone.

A casual chat with Olympus Australia today revealed that their middle dictaphone in their current product range, the DS-3300 has been put to rest and is no more, it has ceased to be.

For the eager Olympus price watchers out there, which is probably just me, you would have noticed that in their price changes on 1st February 2009 Olympus set the RRP of the DS-3300 to the same as the DS-2300, this was to run out their remaining stock.

This now leaves only two digital dictaphones in the current Olympus voice range, the low end DS-2300 and the top end, new design with new software DS-5000 & DS-5000iD models.

My suspicion is that the DS-2300′s days are also now numbered. We have already seen the DS-2400 on the Olympus America website for some time now, as soon as that arrives in Australia we will see the end of the DS-2300 and it’s accompanying AS-2300 digital transcription kit. When in 2009 will that be? No specific date as yet but our guess would be within the next three months so Q2 2009.

Also discontinued was the VN-3100PC, no tears shed over that decision. It was not one of my favourite voice recorders. We are still waiting patiently for the new VN-3500PC and VN-5500PC note takers to appear.

Users of Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 10 Standard, Preferred, Professional and Legal editions should upgrade their software to the new Service Pack 1 recently announced by Nuance. The SP1 includes the usual bug fixes along with a whole host of new features and improvements.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking Service Pack 1

Download the service pack here.

Here is the detail from their SP1 release notes:

Issues resolved in Service Pack 1:

New Features:

* New options are now available for enabling/disabling the following quick formatting commands:
o Delete/Cut [XYZ]
o Copy [XYZ]
* New formatting option “Caps Lock key overrides No Caps/All Caps/Cap commands”. When this option is enabled, text case will be formatted based on the keyboard Caps Lock key.
* When starting Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 in Tray Icon Only mode, a balloon pop-up will appear above the microphone alerting the user that the DragonBar is hidden.
* When prompted for the Windows Username and Password to schedule Accuracy Tuning or Data Collection, it is now possible to turn off Accuracy Tuning or Data Collection by selecting “Do not display again” on the “Windows Username and Password” dialog.
* If the microphone was on or asleep when starting audio file transcription, the microphone will be in sleep mode when transcription finishes.

Accuracy Tuning and Scheduler:

* Scheduled tasks for Accuracy Tuning or Data Collection cannot be run when Dragon is running. The Accuracy Center no longer states the task completed successfully if it could not be started.
* The message “You need to increase the size of the acoustic archives” is no longer displayed when saving a user profile that does not have a full acoustic archive.
* When upgrading user profiles from a previous version that contain large amounts of training data, some training data may not be used, resulting in decreased accuracy in version 10. Upgrading the user profile after installing Service Pack 1 will use all training data available.
* Improved correction handling so actual corrections will not be discarded. The result is faster improvements to dictation accuracy when making corrections.
* Automatic adaptation of user profiles created without training will no longer appear when transcribing a sound file.

Application Support:

* Improved interaction with HTML based windows when running as a Windows Restricted User. This includes Internet Explorer as well editing/creating HTML messages in Microsoft Outlook.
* The “Page Down” command now functions properly in Microsoft Outlook 2007.

Commands:

* When using Mozilla Firefox with the “Require click to select HTML hyperlinks” option turned on, it is now possible to say the “(number)” as well as the original “Choose (number)” command to select a specific link.
* It is now possible to create commands that use abbreviations and expanded form without causing recognition as text (i.e. Mr. or Mister, Dr. or Doctor).
* “Clear delimiting characters” command properly removes fields entered into a table in Microsoft Word.
* In the Spanish version, the commands “ditar selección” and “ditar todos” have been fixed. They are now “editar selección” and “editar todos”.
* In the German version, using the command “verbinde das” to compound two words will no longer remove the capitalization.

Correction:

* Improved correction suggestions based on the context of the word or phrase being selected.
* Correction menu and spell dialog now include non-formatted suggestions.
* Extra spacing is no longer left after cutting or deleting a word or phrase.
* Corrections will no longer be marked with a green asterisk in the vocabulary editor.

Dictation:

* When dictating large amounts of text into an application a message will appear stating that “Dragon has reached the maximum amount of speech data that can be saved.” This message will no longer appear multiple times per application session.
* When dictating in Spell Mode, spaces are no longer entered.
* Dictating any punctuation in the middle of a line of text will no longer delete existing text before or after the insertion point.

Automatic Text Formatting:

* When dictating a custom phrase at the beginning of a paragraph, the entire phrase will no longer be capitalized.
* Improved number formatting.
* Word Properties will now preserve the number of spaces specified in the written form or alternate written form.
* Dictating a comma into existing text will no longer insert a space.
* Improved formatting of the word degree(s).
* Improved formatting of “Mister” and “Doctor”, including the appropriate abbreviations.
* Improved formatting of dates when “dates as spoken” option is selected.
* When dictating times in the Spanish version, “las/la” will no longer be removed during formatting.
* When dictating a number after a comma in the German or Dutch versions, the comma will no longer be shifted to the right, connecting to the number.
* Improved handling of Dutch Zip Codes in the Dutch version.
* Using a colon in the Dutch version no longer inserts a space before or capitalizes the word after.

Miscellaneous:

* It is now possible to change word properties for words with special properties.
* The product’s serial number is now displayed in the Help > About Dragon…
* A warning message will now be displayed indicating that dictation in EMR applications is not supported in non-Medical editions.
* Improved handling of Results box tracking and anchoring.
* Improved handling of speech data when changing dictated words using the keyboard.
* It is now possible to upgrade version 9 user profile with an Austrian Legal Vocabulary to version 10.

Data Distribution Tool (nsadmin):

* Customized word properties are no longer lost when distributing vocabularies using the Data Distribution tool.
* Distributing commands that use list variables to systems that already have the same command, will now overwrite the existing command. A duplicate command will not be created.
* It is not possible to distribute a version 10.0 vocabulary using the Data Distribution Tool after installing Service Pack 1. An error that the vocabulary is corrupted will be displayed. The vocabulary must be exported from a Service Pack 1 installation before distributing.
